Day 31: Coffee Shop Chaos!
Wanna see  a group of guys lose their cool?
When this knockout got in line at my local coffee shop I could visibly see an instant change in the body language of the surrounding men.
Weight shifting, face touching, fidgeting; all their mojo went right out the window and meanwhile she hadn’t even noticed them.
Fortunately (despite her hotness) I had the presence of mind enough to knock out a sketch. This allows me to feel superior to all those guys having meltdowns even though I know that if I wasn’t drawing I’d be right there with ‘em!

Day 215: Start practicing!
You wanna sketch people in public? Learn to draw them holding cell phones!
During a recent sketching session at a mall coffee shop I became aware of just how important this is.
I almost skipped drawing this young woman due to my habit of looking past any pose that involves a cell phone. I just never think of it as creative subject matter but that needs to change!
People are constantly attached to phones (obviously) so for me to look past it in my sketchbook is really pretty ridiculous.
So I took a shot at sketching this lovely lass as she rode the escalator and that’s when I realized - I need practice at this!
I started really observing the numerous ways that people hold their phones. This is going to require some study on my part. I’ll need to learn the hand positions that get used most often and the proper size, proportion and perspective used to draw these various phones.
It may seem like a small detail but phones have become a part of our body language. They effect the way we interact and pay attention (or ignore) one another.
Time to start practicing!
